May Day…May Day!!

May has been an exciting month in Posi World for sure. We kicked it off with a lesson on integrity and decision making.

For this lesson, we chose a balloon activity that forced the ambassadors to utilize their decision making skills and tested their integrity.  The ambassadors had to keep the balloon in the air without bumping into anyone, without talking, and most importantly if they mess up they have to kick themselves out of the game.  No one was there to tell them you are out, the decision was theirs.  The winner was not the last one standing.  The winners were all of the ambassadors that were accountable for their actions, and used integrity to sit out when it was their time.

We also had the pleasure of attending the Compton Youth Air and Job Fair Expo at the Compton Woodley Airport.  The ambassadors were able to meet a Historic Tuskeegee Airmen, sit in some old planes and helicopters, and flew a real flight simulator.  Truly an awesome experience.

We can’t wait to see what the rest of May brings!!

April in Posi World

We conducted an in depth lesson on the correct placement and use of dining utensils. With Easter around the corner, our weekly topic on “Dining Etiquette” shaped up to be very valuable. Our Kid Ambassadors really retained this information. We continue to encourage and promote such skills that prove invaluable for our future young professionals.

Our Kid Ambassadors combined our week’s topic of “Dining Etiquette” with the implementation of publicly speaking in various formal settings. Our POSI Ambassadors are well on their way to being the young professionals and leaders that will carry on the tradition in affecting positive change!!!!

Keep up the good work Ambassadors!!

No matter your age, decisions are made on a daily basis. Good decision making is one of the most important skills one can have. No one is expected to get things right every time. But like everything else, the more you practice the better you’ll be!

Our Ambassadors learned steps that will allow them to make better decisions in the future.

We were able to enjoy the nice Spring weather while playing “Good Choice/Bad Choice”

Followed up with some intense games of Tic Tac Toe and Connect4! All activities required our Ambassadors to think deeply before making their best decisions. We always have a great time in Posi World!

Happy April

POSI WORLD closed out March acknowledging a couple of our top Ambassadors!!

Our kid Ambassadors exemplify what POSI WORLD is all about. These kids are our future leaders of tomorrow. It is such an honor to host these kids every week.

Speaking of our Facilitators, John Kent was able to get out into the community for the LaTijera Tigers v. KJLH radio station basketball game. Both are located right here in Inglewood, CA. The school cheered the players on with excitement. Anything for the kids!!

We look forward to April. We will explore the different types of etiquette and of course add in fun learning activities to reinforce the lessons.

Support Afterschool Programs!!

I’m sure you’ve heard in recent news, that President Trump plans to cut the funding for afterschool programs. The president’s budget justifies this devastating cut by claiming that “the programs lacks [sic] strong evidence of meeting its objectives, such as improving student achievement.”

Here at Posi World, we are able to see change in the Ambassadors first hand. This program alone teaches social skills, which is very important in this technology driven society. The Ambassadors are more confident, thirsty to learn, and better able to handle peer pressure. They have a safe environment afterschool to complete their homework, receive a healthy snack, and participate in fun learning activities.

We’ve pulled the following facts from the Afterschool Alliance, outlining the benefits of supporting your local afterschool programs:

  • Afterschool programs show returns on investment with reports from Minnesota, Vermont, Maryland, Oklahoma, and the national level showing that each dollar invested in afterschool saves up to $9 by increasing young people’s learning potential, improving student performance in school, and reducing crime and welfare costs.
  • Helps parents keep their jobs by providing a free or low cost, safe environment for the kids to go afterschool. 8 in 10 parents say afterschool programs helps them keep their jobs.
  • Regular participation in a afterschool programs helped narrow the achievement gap between high- and low-income students in math, improved academic and behavioral outcomes, and reduced school absences.

We encourage you to get involved however you can!! We all know someone that has needed an afterschool program.

Our Day in POSI WORLD!!

stay on topic2

We had a fun time in POSI WORLD yesterday.  We conducted a reinforcement lesson on communication. Our three main focuses were (1.) Staying on topic (2.) Proper enunciation (3.) Body language. Our kid Ambassadors continue to strive for greatness and the commitment they show week after week is simply remarkable.

For this exercise: The Ambassadors were given random topics to discuss for 50 seconds. Some of the topics covered were love, community, being kind, motorcycles, games, etc.  I must say they all did an amazing job staying on topic.  They surprised us by putting on their thinking caps and bringing up excellent points about each topic. We were very impressed!

We ended the session with a little story time.  Our Facilitator Mr. Spencer kicked it off, and the Ambassadors each added a line to the story (again reinforcing staying on topic). Great job Ambassadors and Facilitators.

Our Week in POSI WORLD!!

As you can see our Ambassadors are soaking up all of the information.  We discussed the components of “Learning To Be Realistic” We emphasized three factors thats should be considered when shaping a realistic view. (1.) Do your due diligence. (2.) Separate fact from fiction. (3.)Accepting limitations is never a weakness.

We rounded the week off in POSI WORLD with the topic “Thinking Outside The Box”. Our Kid Ambassadors discussed the advantages of broadening their ways of thinking, practicing looking deeper below the surface, and applying a versatile approach to problem solving. We finally engaged in activities that required having to apply such critical thinking skills. Excellent Week POSI Ambassadors, keep up the Wonderful Work!!!

February in POSI WORLD!!

February has been very busy in POSI WORLD. Our Ambassadors (Ages 6-11) meet at Rogers Park in Inglewood, CA every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4-6pm. The objectives of the month are to develop and enhance social skills, increase confidence, and reinforce accountability.

POSI WORLD would like to give Special Thanks to the Inglewood Public Library for hosting our Kid Ambassadors yesterday. We had a exciting time exploring the variety of resources that the library has to offer. After our Kid Ambassadors received their personal library cards, they each checked out two books apiece. We are very proud of the commitment these kids show when it comes to learning, exploring, and broadening their horizons. Way To GO! and Keep up the Great Work!

POSI WORLD Kid Ambassadors executed a flawless performance at the 2017 Inglewood Black History Program @ Darby Park, Inglewood. We commend these young men for their hard work and dedication on seeing this production all the way through. Well done Guys!!! We are so proud of each and everyone of you.
